There’s certainly no shortage of free podcasts for runners, like Motion Traxx, which has up-tempo music to keep the pace up; and RunCast.net, which offers advice and insight. (If you’re looking for a longer list, check out this site.)
But recently I stumbled (bad word choice, I know!) upon a group devoted to running and other sports-related injuries and injury prevention. They’re free, too, and available on iTunes, from the Hospital for Special Surgery, by clicking on this site. It’s like having an office visit or consultation that you can replay over and over again.
Some of the topics covered in the podcasts that I found particularly useful, as I face arthroscopic hip surgery this week : returning to exercise post-injury or treatment; lower body strengthening, core, and trunk position; physical examination of the hip; and injuries of the hip and knee that affect runners.
Want more health and fitness podcasts? Here’s a list on iTunes.
I also found another good podcast from the Runners Roundtable from earlier this year, about preventing and treating injuries and gait retraining.
These may not be the kind of head-bobbing, foot-tapping downloads that we’re used to listening to on our iPods, but they could save a trip to the doctor!
