Happy Valentine’s Day

Two months since my second arthroscopic hip surgery and I still cannot resume running. Yet. (Unless you count dashing across Eight Avenue in Midtown Manhattan to avoid oncoming traffic.)

But I can engage in a few (O.K., just two, really) heart-healthy activities right now: the stationary bike (I’m up to 40 minutes, and with some resistance now); and the elliptical machine (I’m up to 30 minutes, and with resistance, too).

My physical therapist did say during today’s visit that I could begin power walking, which, in my mind, is the first step toward running again. And by mid-March: spinning. Now that’s something to be pumped up about!

Welcome

Most athletes have experienced a “second wind,” that jolt of energy and strength that allows us, enervated and dispirited, to carry on. But sometimes our bodies cannot recover on their own – we need outside help so we can catch our “third wind.”
