If you’re training for a marathon, contemplating one, or know someone who is — I guess that covers almost everyone! — you might be interested in an upcoming free Webinar being offered by the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York (where my hip surgery is planned). It’s actually part of the New York Road Runners Learning Series.
The organizers say that “participants will improve their understanding of the causes of running injuries and learn to identify and avoid common mistakes, improve their running form and incorporate strength-training exercises to minimize risk of injury and maximize performance.”
Now if only I had attended this last year at this time, when my ill-fated marathon training began!
This event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. You can register for it at this site.
J.J.: I agree!
What a great idea for a blog….us older distance athletes love to spend time talking about what ails us. Now we can speak to a wider circle of sympathetic ears and increase our chances of learning something new!
Thanks, Tony. I signed up for the Webinar.
I like this blog! Will check it out in the future. I have recently (past three years) ramped up my running and biking, my third wind, greatly encourged by good friends who are expert tri-competitors. Over the three years, I’ve had a couple of lingering aches that I think could have been prevented. Attending the NYRR session on injury prevention sounds like a great idea!
