Tim Thomas of the Boston Bruins was awarded this week the National Hockey League’s Vezina Trophy for best league goaltender. Aside from the fact that this is his second one (the first was awarded in 2009), what makes this trophy even more remarkable is that Thomas’s career almost ended more than a year ago because of a hip injury — the same injury, in fact, that I suffer from. In May 2010, Thomas underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip; I have a similiar surgery scheduled for next month. So clearly there’s hope!
